Vision of Grace Transition Home, 501c3 was founded in 2008, opening as a unique Montgomery homeless shelter, where families are placed in a single-family home. The house is fully furnished with all the amenities needed for children and their parents, including computers for lesson.
The word home is essential to our program’s success because children need a home. They need to feel safe, comfort, warmth and all the other things that come with it. Studies indicate that “An enriching and stimulating home environment fosters healthy growth and brain development by providing a child with love, emotional support, and opportunities for learning and exploration.” Living on the street, in cars, in shelters can stagnate this. Vision of Grace Transition Home is dedicated to the successful transition of families from homelessness back to a self-sustained life.
By housing families one at a time, covering all expenses, giving them 4 – 5 months on average to save their money, prepares them for moving forward in life. At the end of this program, they can re-establish themselves in their own home or apartment again. Families are only responsible for a nominal fee beginning at $25 the first month increasing by $25 each month.
We work with partners in other local agencies to help with teaching them financial planning, budget counseling and other skills necessary to ensure they are well suited to reestablish themselves in a self-sustained life. Ninety-eight percent (98%) of our families succeed in this model and can move into their own homes and apartments upon leaving. Here is a picture of our latest successful family, who moved out on October 28, 2021. They transitioned to a home.
